dale	there is no best overall as an example, i used pearse phosphor strings for my gibson and hated d'addario. the pierce sounded much better. Sold the gibson and got a larrivee.....pierce sounded lousy on it and d'addario 80/20 bronze became my favorite string on it ! And this is after experimenting with lots of brands. Point is, each guitar will have a perticular brand and type that sounds best, and the differences can be drastic. Your best bet is to try 5 or 6 of the top brands and types and decide. It's a lot of trouble and expense, but worth every penny and trouble.
