Are you talking about using them in split coil mode? In this case the hum is absolutely normal as is the fact that it goes away when you use both pickups together.  
 
If you're instead getting hum even in the humbucking mode:  
Could it be they got the wiring of your humbuckers wrong? Each humbucker has three or four wires which can easily be confused.
