| Borsanova | Re: Poly or ceramic caps for treble bleed? Preference? I think you are discussing very interesting themes on this board, though sometimes it gets very technical. I only learned about the use of bleed capacitors in electric guitars about a year ago. No question: on the Internet, of course. So I decided to try it out and I mounted a 0,01 mf capacitor on the bridge volume pot of my Ibanez ES 345 copy. I have to say it worked, it retained the trebles while turning the volume knob. But it did a bad job on my volume control, since it started reducing significantly only when I arrived at 2. So I have to say that it turned my volume control into some kind of reverse tone control. And even the sound was a bit disappointing. I really think I get some sharper sounds by using the out-of-phase circuit. Fortunately I connected the capacitor with a switch in the f-hole. It's still there, but I don't use it anymore. So what went wrong? Was the capacitor still too big (It is almost as small as a needles head)? Or was it simply the wrong guitar? Or was what I got exactly the result I had to expect? I'm asking all this because I recently bought a Mexican Fender Telecaster on Ebay. I had read somewhere and thus thought that all Teles had a bleed capacitor. But this one hasn't. So I thought I'd put one on. But my previous experience hasn't been encouring and so I'm still hesitating. I actually think that a volume control is a very useful feature on a guitar and I don't want to give it up in favor of a second tone control! How do you mount your bleed capacitors and what are the results? |

| Luijo The cap is supposed to be 1000pF. |
