| Borsanova | Re: Balance between two humbuckers with different impeda Thanks for your advice and you are surely right. I fact I found that there is another thing I can do if I don't mind a little inclination of the picks. In fact I cannot raise and lower the two picks on the whole, because the volume level gets too different and the sound quality of both decreases, with one getting too hot and the other too weak. But I can set them with a little inclination. So I have raised the bridge pu beneath the high e-string just one turn and I have lowered it beneath the low E-string one turn. And with the neck pu I did the opposite. Both are now very slightly inclined in opposite directions beneath the strings, but if you don't know it, you won't even notice. To my ears however, things changed quite a lot and I can now distinguish two different sounds, when I switch from the neck to the middle position. The DiMarzio Fred is not a bad pickup, but since it's so different, it takes some time to explore it and get used to. Not knowing its particular eq curve, in the beginning I continued playing it with the mid boost of my amp always on. It sounded really harsh (like heavy metal) and I didn't like it at all. But with the mid boost off (and a bit of inclination) it sounds much better now. So I think I'll keep it, at least for a while. |
