| Brutus | Re: 12BH7A anyone? It's a heavy duty 12au7 that has about 2 watts plate disipation in each section. Great for nano type amps. A little bit brighter sounding than the 12AU7. However, amplification factor of only 20. I like it because you can put almost 400v on it's plates without destroying it. Try doing that with a 12ax7. Most old McIntosh tube hifi amps use one with 365v on the plate and they will idle there all day. Because of it's ability to handle higher voltages with lot's of current, it has often been used as a cathode follower in various circuits to drive big triodes like 211's and 845's. A good tube to use as a driver to a 211 if you want to build an "all triode" amp without having to resort to using something like a power pentode (like a EL34)to drive it. Nice tube. Brutus |
