| Greg | Power Supply Questions - how will this affect the tone? First question - using a Vox ac30 as an example - does a different filtering arrangement affect the tone or the feel of an amp? I have checked out a Bruno Underground 30 that (for the Bright channel, anyway) basically looks like a AC30 Top Boost - but - it used much higher filtering, though - a bunch of 40uf caps. I was amazed at how good it sounded. Very solid and inviting for single note stuff (with a strat) - much more so than the livelier Matchless stuff I have played. Not quite the strummy chord machine like a DC30, but it really invited clean soloing like nothing I have ever played. Anyway, I have just finished a Matchless Lightning that I am not quite enamored with. I am thinking about modding it to standard Vox values to see what that will do for me, but I wonder if what I am really desiring is a stiffer power supply like I found in the Bruno. That, of course, will be much harder to accomodate (the small value caps barely fit in my chassis), so I thought I'd get your opinions before proceeding. Thanks in advance. Greg |
