It would be interesting to see the temps of the tranny when run open circuit at 115VAC, 120VAC, and 125VAC. This would rule out secondary I^2R losses and just show you how hot the tranny gets from primary I^2R losses and core losses.  
 
Like Wild Bill is saying, they're rated for 105dC, so they could be fine and dandy even if they are hot to the touch.
