CarloRe: why do hammond PT get so hot?
this is interesting... best explanation i've heard so far is high wall voltage (125VAC here) for those that run hot. although Wild Bill's VAC was pretty high, so that may not be the cause. i'm stumped too. anyone in the 'cool' camp using tube rectifiers? all my 'hot' amps used either a 5AR4 or 5Y3. the 270HX would get hot even when the 2xEL84 amp was just idlin' ...no signal, out of the cabinet.

well i'll try running one off a variac when i get a chance.
