Brutus, You sound like a knowledgeable guy so please don't take this personally, but isn't it generally true that an amp designed for AB can't be turned into class A by changing the bias as you suggest because the plate voltage is too high? A class A amp has to idle at a current halfway between cutoff and saturation. Biasing to that point in your average AB guitar amp would be well over the rated Pa for the tubes right? -Carl
