Si transistors sound very similar, the difference between them is subtle (IMHO) not like Ge transistors. I prefer lower gain ones (the "B" is lower gain than "C") but you can use anything really. I heard Fulltone uses 2SC828 in the '70 Pedal. Si transistors are cheap enough where you can buy a bunch, socket them and see what sounds best to your ears.
