My guess is that it somehow injects white noise into the signal, probably by controlling a gate synced to the dynamics of the signal. "Static" is not distortion but rather a form of white noise which is a random combination of all frequencies in the audio range. That is different than clipping a fundamental sine wave of a specific frequency. Clipping will only produce harmonics of the fundamental. White noise on the other hand is a combination of all frequencies, harmonic and enharmonic. Looks like 3MS doesn't have any sound samples on their site. Too bad. I'd like to hear how it sounds. |
