It doesn't surprise me that a few ham radio types have migrated into DIY audio.

I also used to be involved with amateur radio in the '70's. Built a few transmitters and few KW RF amplifiers and that kind of thing. But HR is dying out or at least it is not as technical as it used to be. So I instead do audio these days because it still is very hands on and also because I've been a musician for a long time.

Regarding learning, just start reading. I recommend reading the entire series of books put out by Kevin O'Connor usually referred to as the TUT series. Or start with TUT1 and go from there. Absolutely a goldmine of information that can be found nowhere else in my opinion. I have nothing but good things to say about what O'Connor has put together to help amateur audio didlers like me make sense about how audio amplifiers work.
