| Mick | Re: gz34 Well, I've never tried it but I suppose you could try running lower gain tubes if you want to prevent it from breaking up past 3 on the volume knob. If you ran a 12AT7 in the PI instead of a 12AX7 (mu of 60 vs. 100) and put a 12AU7 in the front end (mu of ~20 vs. 44 I think) I suppose that would give you better control over the little bit of clean headroom that the 5E3 has. But the breakup is what most of us like about the 5E3. If you're after a clean sound at a reasonable volume level you might want to consider a Princeton Reverb instead of a 5E3. Just my opinion.
