Wax does contain water to a minor extent, the wood will absorb some, glue joints get quite weak. I'd laquer/poly pot it. Also note that to "dip pot" in laquer or poly it needs to be thinned in order to penetrate well. Yes, you can wax pot a pickup previously potted with something else, but the effectiveness will vary...
