| WolfeMacleod | Magnet bevelling I found a nifty little tool last night at Home Depot, made by Dremel. It's a small diamond plated cutting disk, about the size of a quarter. I figured the diamond plating would wear off from contact with the Alnico, but it seems to be holding up great. Every other "someting" plated item I've tried has worn away the plating, resulting in a smooth surface with no bite. Stick this little sucker in a dremel or other rotary tool, chuck a magnet in a drill press, and let 'er rip. Nice bevel in about .5 seconds. This diamond disk really chews through the alnico quickly, and doen't seems to produce much heat. The disk cost me about $15, so I gambled on it lasting more than a dozen magnets or so. As a cheaper alternative, Dremel reinforced cutting disks also work well. They'll do about 40 magnets or so before they need to be replaced. Any other thoughts on magnet bevelling? Wolfe |
