I have an e-book by Martin Koch , he's an austrian guitarbuilder who makes pickups , in that he's using 2 mm (3/32") plywood for bobbins.  
Prespane ( a type of compressed cardboard ), have you ever heard of that , I haven't.  
That's what a finn , Matti Nevalainen , also a guitarbuilder uses to make bobbins.
