I belive Kinman had his about 2 years prior When Dimarzio got wind of it, he filed for patent infringement in New York. According to N.Y law, to defend yourself, you must appear in New York, with a N.Y approved attouney. Kinman couldn't afford it. Dimarzio won by DEFAULT and STOLE Kinman's patent from him, forcing Chris to redesign his pickups.
