Here's an example of why some supplier info is tight-lipped: Jason and I had done some negotiations with a well known, rather large luthier supply company to suply some parts. Problem was, they wanted ALL the parts at once, and we didn't know the source of some of them. Time passed...and negotiations were put on hold...then recently, I discovered the source...so now that we had the source, we could have resumed netogiations... During a recent conversation with the V.P of the company (and forgetting about the aformentioned negotiations), I shot myself in the foot and let the source information slip out accidentally...which would mean he could now go directly to the source, instead of using us as a middleman. By being tight-lipped about some of the sources, we're protecting oursevles in certain negotiations...if everyone knew, someone could go behind us and cut us out entirely. Based on order amounts they were wanting to make, and markups that were discussed earlier, I estimate this slip of my tounge cost me/us a potential of a half million bucks, if the initial order with the supplier could have been made.
