Wire tension, s'mores
ArmatureCoil inc. makes industrial coil winders and suggests a winding tension that is 50-80% of the wire maximum. See <http://www.armaturecoil.com/winders/PDFBin/tensionwirechart.pdf>

These are the figures we are interested in:

#42 - .049 lb. - 22 grams ~3/4 oz.
#43 - .038 lb. - 17 grams ~2/3 oz
#44 - .023 lb. - 10 grams ~1/3 oz.

Azonics makes an industrial-grade mechanical tensioner priced at $217, something unusual when the swiss Meteor 484 (apparently an industry standard) goes for $400 used and $600 new. If this kind of tension control is what you want, talk to Claire at Azonics. She seems a very nice sort.

To keep spooled wire from falling into piles or tangling as you pay it out, the $4 "Wisker Disk" is available. Check out the picture. It's a cardboard disk with bristles around the edge. You could easily make your own. <http://www.azonicproducts.com/wisker.html>
