What I meant was that cheap stock pickups generally sound one dimenstional, bland and allow none of the unique character of the individual guitar to shine through. I am not really talking about objective/subjective issues of tone, rather responiveness and ability to produce a sound that is generally a reflection of the true tone of the individual guitar. And, in my humble experience, cheap pickups sound, well, cheap. I was just wondering why this is so- considering that I have never really come across another guitarist who disagres with me on this topic. Hope this makes sense. Dick
