Sorry to differ...but there's even a video-interview of Mr.Clapton himself in the sixties(Cream-era) in which he explains what he calls the "woman-tone",with the famous psychodelic paint LP/SG in hand.  
Of course you can get that tone with a LP,as a matter of fact you can aproximate it with a lot of guitars with good neck HB and a decent tone control.
