Good articles. Thanks for the references. Yes, I heard he had done a lot of work for the band called the Primitives, but I never heard them on the radio, probably because I live in the States.

I noticed from the list that Page did the guitar work for the song "Down in the Boondocks." Is that the song of the same name that was popular in the US back in the early 60's? If so, I'll have to give it a closer listen.

The other article was also good. I don't necessarily agree with the spin the article gives placing fault on the band members for borrowing some ideas from black blues artists because in reality all bands have their influences and no songwriter operates in a vacuum. Also, making early rock music was not just whites making black music. It was making music that also had a strong Celtic influence as well. Of course, I am not trying to minimize the contribution of blacks to the whole process because their contribution was certainly substantial. But we seem to often forget the Celtic influence as well.

I remember reading an interview with JP in a guitar magazine years ago in which he was asked how he goes about composing his riffs. He stressed that he considered the song the most important element and that everything he came up with was done to support the song rather than to just play some good riffs. I think you can really hear this in his playing. Perhaps it's because of his training as a studio musician.
