To feed an UNBALANCED source  
to a BALANCED input, you would  
want to put "signal hot" on  
pin 2 of the XLR plug and  
ground BOTH pins 1 and 3.  
 
Be warned, though, that Mackie  
mixers don't like having this  
done to them (can result in  
RF pickup problems) Further,  
remember this rule: "Low into  
high may go; high into low may not".  
In other words, high impedance sources  
do NOT go into low impedance inputs;  
low impedance sources WILL work  
with high impedance inputs.
