| Howard | Fostex VC8 I just purchased one of the Fostex VC8 20 bit 8-channel analog/lightpipe converters. This plus the 4 analog ins of the Core2 gives me 12-channel input. It will be put to the test very soon as I'm starting a CD project mid-november. Will be recording: Drums Percussion (Congas & toys) Upright bass Nylon string & Electric guitar Vocals. Running the Core2 in a 850mhz PIII/VIA PC with 2 IBM 7200rpm 40gig drives. Plextor CDR, Turtle Beach Fiji w/Digital I/O. Had to modify the older VIA Apollo BIOS with a BIOS tweak utility to gain maximum performance. Runs great now, never and pops or clicks. If you're interested in such things go here: www.viahardware.com/downl...tweak.shtm This is from Mark Mitchell with Lexicon tech support. A reply to my question about the Lexicon drivers interpreting a 20 bit data stream. ====================================== My question: The Fostex box uses 20-bit converters. When recording at 24-bit in Cubase am I getting 20 or 16 bit resoulution. In other words, how do the Lexicon Core2 drivers deal with 20-bits. I know that some 20-bit audio cards manage by recording the last 4-bits (of 24) as zeros, but do record 20 bits of data. thanks... 11/7/01 9:18:38 AM MMITCHELL Reply Howard, You are correct in your notion that when recording a 20-bit signal at 24-bit, the Core 2 adds 4 zeros to the end, and just records a 20-bit signal. Regards, Mark Mitchell Lexicon Tech Support ================================================== This is good news as not all drivers/cards handle incoming 20-bit data correctly. howard later... howard |
