| Soapbarstrat | Re: Kickin' the dead horse one more time! I have to say from experience that a "bare wood" neck sure feels better than a lacquer coated one. When I say "bare wood" , I mean a light oil finish ( I used Watco danish oil, but maybe pure linseed oil is better, or 'tru-oil.). Ok, so the oil-finish has the drawback of letting the weather affect the neck more. But if the neck is at least several years old, this is less of a problem. I prefer a neck at least 10 years old, so all the the crazy twisting and warping tendencies of a new neck are pretty much over with (unless you decide to go swimming with your guitar) Also, even a lacquer coated neck is still affected by the weather and will require a truss-rod adjustment when the seasons change, so if you have to get out the truss-rod wrench anyway, you might as well go with a "bare wood" finish, if it feels much better to you. |
