Back in the early 80's I replaced the pickups on my LP with a JB in the bridge position and a Duncan Jazz in the neck position.

For my tastes, the JB was way too dark sounding. I did not like it at all. The Jazz, on the other hand, was a very nice pickup. I later put the Jazz in the bridge position and it sounded great, certainily better than the JB for my tastes. I play rock, not Jazz, and to my ears, the Jazz is great for blues and classic rock.

I'm always amazed when I hear people raving about the tone of the JB pickup because mine just didn't do it for me. I wonder if they changed the design over the years and perhaps the JB's made today are not the same design as the early ones. Some respected players have liked the JB's which leaves me perplexed.

In any event, I quickly removed the JB after I bought it and it's been laying in my junkbox ever since. Maybe one of these days I'll put it on ebay.
