I agree with you 100%. fwiw I think swapping the OT in any amp like this is a big enough change that you need to go back to square one again (or face a lot of tail chasing!!) I've had a number of clients who modded like crazy only to come back to where Ken & Jim wound up all those years ago. Then they go "aha!" ..and I know - I took the same trip! It's no accident, and when all the pieces are happy together (speakers, tubes, trannies, etc) that basic design is tough to improve on IMHO. It's been making guitar players happy for nearly 40 years after all! If you find you need all kinds of mods and caps etc, there is probably something else wrong. it's just my opinion & I could be wrong!
