| Carlo | Re: why do hammond PT get so hot? in my experience, hammond PT's get hotter than the average tranny. mainly i've used 270HX to build Vox AC30 type amps with a 5AR4. initially i was concerned so i used a 270HX to build a AC15 style amp and the tranny got just as hot. all the amps are built in a Fender style chassis, with 5AR4 rectifiers. The transformers get hot even when the chassis is out of the cabinet. my wall outlet is around 125VAC. Never caused me any problems in the 5 or 6 years the amps have been in service, so i stopped worrying about it. so what models have you used Wild Bill? by the sounds of it - all of 'em. carlo |
