If you'd consider a 2x12 or a 1x12, go with the Carvin BelAir (2x12) or Nomad (1x12). Nice well made amps, easy to work on. Get a used one and pull the clipping diods out, add a couple of cathode by-pass caps, swap in a good set of tubes and speakers and for ~500 - 600 bucks you'll have an amp that will hang with the best boutiques and handbuilts.
