in addition to doing R&D for them, I also did some sales and repairs.. how I fixed the conductive board was simple:  
Leave it on all night. Sometimes longer. Just cook the mutha.  
 
Then tell the owner never to leave it overnight somewhere they wouldn't sleep themselves. ;) Car trunks, basements, garages.. usually the problem crops up as "mice from space" noises, but scratchy pots will (obviously!) happen too. this is why Fender in the later years dipped the whole shebang in parafin. There are more hardcore fixes, but cooking the thing works fine IME.
