| Cgiff | Re: Homemade cabinets Sleebo, One trick that I have used to make cabinets in the past with good results is to use a powered hand saw and a piece of angled steel from a bed frame. The angle steel is C clamped to the wood and used as a “rip Fence”. You need to measure the edge of the saw blade teeth to the edge of the saw shoe (the flat plate on the saw). You offset the angle-steel from the point where you want to cut. With a little practice you can get quick dimensionally accurate straight cuts. Perfect for making cabinets. You can easily and safely rip a 4X8 sheet of plywood or pine stock with this minimalist technique. Use a carbide blade on the saw. The overbite of the teeth help to keep the cut straight. In the old days dovetail joints were cut by hand. I think modern day artisans likely still cut them by hand. I use biscuits for my joinery. Good luck on your project. Cgiff |
