There are three other aspects to the Marshall 30th Ann. amp: the cathode followers ease the layout on the PCB since there are no "flipped over" gain stages using one tube per stage; the noise is potentially less; gain per stage is potentially maximised. It still seems like quite a waste. I've never met anyone who liked the sound of that channel.
Three stages will do the distortion most people like and use.
Four stages will do any distortion desired.
Five+ and you are asking for noise problems unless the layout, grounding and decoupling are up to the task.
