Yes, I'm sure price psychology is a factor. Buy what is perceived to be the best so that you can satisfy ego needs.  
 
Occasionally though, you'd think someone would buy one thinking that they are going to get good tone and then discover that the thing doesn't deliver. In that situation they might give out a bad review. That is why I was surprised that everbody consistently rated it a 10, rather than an 9 or 8.  
 
From what I can gather, David Gilmour uses a lot of the Cornish stuff. Also was surprised to find out that Brian May's famous terble booster was made by Cornish. Brian's sound is certainly unique and has been attributed to 1) his guitar, 2) Vox AC-30 and 3) his treble booster. Take any of these ingrediants away and he would loose his sound IMO.  
 
Would like to try Cornish but seems like you have to buy sight unseen. Because of that I'll probably leave it unless I find one floating around cheap on ebay.
