The +9V is really -9V, red wire to ground. Make sure that's right.  
No it isn't, apparently.  
I'm wrong again, I didn't notice it was negative ground. My understanding is that the transistor orientation is unchanged, but my understanding is clearly lacking.  
Sorry about that, I'll just sit int the corner with a bag over my head. Thanks for correcting me!
