Getting Started
Hi guys, I've been following this forum for awhile now, and have develop the urge to build my first amp.

At this stage of the process I am merely trying to take in as much info as possible. I am fully aware of the danger that lurks a chassis, so I am not eager to jump into this without some tools and knowledge. But feel free to re-enforce any disclaimers! One can never be too cautious.

In my quest for printed information, where is a good starting point? It seems that no single book is considered the definitive resource, but what might be the top three or four amp books? Any specific electronics books that might be of use?

As for tools and equipment, aside from a multimeter and 35-40W soldering iron, do I need anything else? I have a couple of cheap-o multimeters (under $20), but do any of you have a preference or need for functions normally reserved for more moderately appointed multimeters?

And last, looking at all the 5E3 web content (schematics, chassis layouts, step-by-step construction...), it seems that this is one of the better if not best documented builds around. Is this a good starting kit for someone that has no electronic experience, yet is looking for a real world application for the research one has done?
