Great tips.  
 
I use a 25 watt weller for most duties, except the grounds. I have an old gun of unknown wattage that I use for the grounds. This made it really difficult since I put the brass plate in and then soldered the grounds to it. It's probably why my ground problems occured at the input jacks. There's not much room to negotiate a good solder joint with a gun.
