| Darin | Re: 5e3 build Hi Chip, Congrats on getting started. I just finished my Mission kit a few weeks ago. My main problem initially was decoding the resistor values. It has been a very long time since I had done any circuit work (High School was the last time, YIKES!). The chart is helpful, but not so much if you are as colorblind as I am. I had my wife help me with this and we taped them to a sheet of paper with their values labeled on the tape. I didn't do everything in the exact order as stated by Bruce, yet it still worked out fine. I will also say that soldering the ground leads to the brass plate before installation is a great idea. I made the mistake of not doing this and after resoldering the ground nearest the input jacks a half dozen times or so I had to redo it. It is also a very good idea to insulate the connections to the power switch and stand by switch. I made the mistake of accidentally touching the connections for the stand by switch and got quite a jolt. Check out the build site on Bruce's 5E3 page and pay close attention to the pictures. I didn't look at these and did things as I saw best. I could have saved myself a lot of time by studying these first. Specifically around the input jacks and 9 pin sockets. |
