Believe it or not I like both used at the same time in a 5E3. That got a bad rep because of some silver face fenders, but there was other ugly things going on in those amps besides this. I like to run the tubes a little colder than the stock cathode resistor does, and if you add a little bias voltage into the grids you can cool them down without going with a bigger resistor. You still get the cathode bias sound, but biased where you like it, and not as much bias shift as you'd get with a bigger cathode resistor. PaulC
