It might as well be gun calibers or what wood a hockey stick is made of. What I am looking for is the professional opinion of players who have stood in front of a house full of paid customers who want to hear some real blues tone. A 5E3 represents a large amount of tweed tone that was recorded in the 50s. Several of the better blues players knew how to select tubes to get the best tone. They might of used Pros, Supers or Bandmasters in the clubs but in the studio they mostly used lower wattage tweeds. I have found that several brands of 12ay7s work well in the two preamp (and inverter) positions in a 5e3. What I am looking for is other people’s experiences with brand combinations of 12av7s, 12ay7s,12at7s, and other 12xx7s. Yes there is a lot to said for speakers, transformers, room size, and other shit most of us can deal with. What I wanta hear about real live cranked in front of paid customer experiences with obtainable tubes in a 5e3. If you got’m …share. |
