| Andy | Re: Laquering tweed From what I have read, the original tweed was finished in laquer. I used Watco brushing laquer, clear, satin finish, nitrocellulose laquer. I did several coats over a couple of days. For proper ventilation I did it outside with temp above 60, low humidity, and not in direct sunlight. I sanded lightly with 220 grit, only between coats that had dried over night, as per directions. I am very happy with the results. It feels and looks good. Some guys have reported good results with either tinted or clear poly or shellac. Sometimes top coating the shellac with laquer, but the directions for laquer say not to use it over poly or shellac. That might be a consideration if you are purchasing a cabinet that has already been sprayed with a first coat. |
