Tom,

In response to your question about speakers, I have sort of an unusual speaker in mine: a Mojo Black Beauty. I know, I know...Mojo, ew! That's what I thought too.

I've owned a few Deluxes and I've heard Jensen's and Webers, the R's, Q's, N's, both Ceramic and Alnico. Believe it or not, I actually liked the C12Q the best. The N was too dark and constipated, the R was nice and warm but the overdrive stunk. The Q's were great, seemed to match the output of the amp, good compromise. They had a pretty flat frequency reponse too. Not too bright, not too bassy. But I actually liked the C12Q best of those.

But back to this Mojo thing. I recently built a 5E3 kit from Marsh Amps (great guy) and it came with a Mojo Black Beauty. I never, ever would have let a speaker like that near my amp. As Mike Marsh said, they get no respect. But I've been very, very impressed with it. I think it is a 100 watt Ceramic magnet speaker. So yes, it is on the clean side and it is a HEAVY speaker. It makes my Deluxe sound like a Pro, no kidding. It is very chimey, never harsh, and is probably one of the best speakers I've had in a 5E3. Very forward sounding, very big, but really voiced well for this amp. I would put these Black Beauty's in any thing. I love them. I think they are less than $50.

Just my two cents...

Owen
