| Andy | yard sale original 5D3...now what? I have really enjoyed pouring over the wealth of information available on this little amp. I guess they got it right the first time when Leo built this thing.I bought at a yard sale in rural northern Wisconsin a homemade, ugly purple shag covered cabinet with no speaker for $5.00 that contained a 1955 5D3 in original condition excepting the fuse was redone with an aftermarket holder(I think they lost the cap).I broke all the rules and plugged it in...lucky me it didn't explode. All but the 5y3 lit up. I got a rectifier tube and have heard it make sound but that's all so far. I had to travel so when I get home I must decide where to go with this little jem. Will it loose collectible value is I do a cap job? I am not sure if I'll put it in a head only cab or an origonal style...probably the latter. It should have a removable 3 prong powre cord..does that wreck the value? I do want to play it regularly..I expect the sound to be great thru a 2-12 cellestion cab I have. I play at LOW volume and want the tube distort and sustain I think will be there. I would be grateful for pointers on how to procede. It will be slow because the budget is not unlimited. Thanks alot..hot glass is fun, Andy. |
