As you have found, Maplin etc are not great for valve stuff. Then I saw a reference here, or was it Ampage or AX84, to a chap in Dundee called Philip Ramsay, who runs his own business Bluebell Audio. I have since got all my components directly from him, eg Hammond transformers, choke and chassis, Jensen speaker, NOS valves, sockets, pots, switches, caps, resistors. Anything he hasn't had in stock, he has managed to get reasonably quickly. For a beginner like me he is also a good source of information and I had several long phonecalls with him before actually deciding on my first build. Details are on http://www.bluebellaudio.com though he is not really web based. Best to give him a call on 01382 322 990 and mention my name. I'll get onto my own 5E3 as soon as I finish the Champ.
