Another bad neck joint

Another bad neck joint
Cleaning the saw dust out of the neck joint on my Dano worked so well I thought I'd try it on my Sortacaster. It has a real thick paint job, probably dipped. There were two "hangers" right where the neck mounted. I circled them in the first picture. Its hard to see in the picture but they were quite tall, keeping most of the neck from touching the body. The third picture shows it after I ran a flat file over it to true it up. This guitar sounded pretty good so I didn't think there would be much difference. Boy was I wrong! Its amazing how much better it sounds. It even feels a hundred times better, I can't explain why but it does. I recommend anybody with an "affordable" guitar pull the neck and make sure there is solid contact. I've had excellent results on both my guitars and will check all my future guitars as well.

P.S. Can anybody tell from the pictures what kind of wood the body is made from. I don't know woods. This is the only place I can see the grain. It also has a thin veneer on the top. It is pretty heavy for a Strat. I hope to get a better look when I sand it down for new paint but that may be a while.
