They are not suitable for filtering duty at all. They have very high ESR and are slow to charge and discharge. They are suitable for maintaining a backup voltage to low-power CMOS real time clocks and memory chips that only draw a few ma. If you want to go bonkers with big-ass caps, get some of those humonguous electrolytics that the car stereo guys use. Be careful though, they pack a whallop when charged, and when discharged look like a very big dead-short circuit.
