I worked in the machine tool trade for many years.  
 
Aluminum is soft and can gum on tool bits the brad points are a good idea and make a nice round hole. you definatly need lubricant for aluminum. you might start at 800rpm with a small drill 1/8" to 3/16" and slow down to 500rpm as it gets bigger than 3/8ths
