Re: Computer based home studio.
1) PC
2) SoundBlaster Live!
3) CD-R is necessary (the files are hugh, and you'll want back ups of almost everything)

Else)

I was running Cakewalk Home Studio 7 on a 100 mhz Pentium with no hickups other than screen update speed and export speed issues (slow). I since upgraded to 233 mhz, it is somewhat quicker (importing from bundle files, exporting to wav). Also upgraded to HomeStudio 9.0, yields 8 digital audio tracks at once. Absolutely fantastic. Wish I had it 15 years ago.

Another issue, though, is hardrive read/write speed. I think it's call DMA time. It needs to be fast, else you get skips. There are programs that will tell you the drive access time, go to PCWorld.com or whatever. Also some equipment just never works right, I know someone who has better PC gear than me and can't get MIDI drums to record right.

Good luck . . .
