These transformers were from a Mac Integrated amp using a single 12AX7 driver ( voltage amp/cathodyne phase splitter) and 2 7591's per channel,as I recall, so I don't think the driver's job was that demanding. The amp had a blown P-former, and I managed to sell off the mainframe (less the outputs) to another Mac owner who needed some of the cosmetic's. I saw the article you refered to a few years ago. I think Bruce Rosenblit pushed a little more power through these transformers than I need, or would feel comfortable doing. I may do this with 2-6CA7's for convenience, but always liked the "7591 sound" alot. They do have screen and cathode windings, plus a separate FB winding as well. Maybe a couple of EL84's per side, I gotta check the impedances. I'm sure the end product should sound nice. I'll keep the board posted. Thanks again for your input. |
