| Dominik | Re: Am I too dumb(le) to understand this?? Hi there, well last night, I fixed the switching problem. As proposed by Dave H. and Gil (thanks guys), I put a 1k resistor in series with each LED and got rid of the 1.4 K going from +ve of the bridge to ground. Now I have 8 V and they are pretty steady. I have two 6V relays and had to install a 12 V relay, since on the third 6 V relay a contact broke of. Shit. THe switching itself is almost noiseless, but I have some nasty hum now. I tried to symmetrate the 6.3V winding and that helped some, although I donīt understand why that should do anything. The - of the 8 V DC is not connected to ground nor is the winding of the 6.3 VAC. Hmm. That is the fun part in such things, when you fix on thing another problem comes along. BTW the direct comparison between skyliner and 70s OD is quite fun: The skyliner clean channel is nice but lacks some warmth and bass compared to the 70s (all pots on the same setting) THe 70s clean is rounder although, it is better used for jazz or blues. The skyliner clean can be in your fac. I like the differences. The OD section of the skyliner is a dream. Very creamy, but not farty or so. The tonestack of the OD is useful, altho I might have chosen a wrong pot for bass (1 M log me thinks), since it works changes the sound in the beginning, but does not do mauch after that. The 70s OD is much less creamy and rather crunchy. Even putting a lot of signal onto the second tube of the OD does not result in such creamy tones like in the skyliner. I will use it as a crunch channel. BTW I changed back the 1M Drive pot on the 70sOD to 100 kb log it really makes a difference. Conclusion: I am all for building a Dumple combo clone next (need to put some money in the socks for that). The whole concept of the amp is appealling to me. I woulsee wether a mixture of the 70sclean and the skyliner OD would be feasible. Maybe I will just stick to the design and copy just the skyliner. I wonder what the power section does to the fine preamp sounds. BTW has anyone seen how the reverb channel works on a dumple?? Thanks again for all the great input,. Yours truly, Dominik |
