I regularly buy strings, guitars, basses, amps etc, and I take their purchase cost as a deduction against income earned as a musician. Like many, I also take gasoline, and tuxedo cleaning or repairs as well. The cool thing is you can buy things like investment grade instruments that can be depreciated, and yet they appreciate in value. Alot like a house. "What a country !"
